BREAKING: Roundup found in beer & wine samples (See the brands)

We all know that alcoholic drinks are not a health food – and alcohol itself is linked to cancer. But, these new findings are just further evidence that this hazardous weed killer is ending up in almost everything that we eat and drink. How much weed killer are we each eating every day?

Breaking new tests conducted by the consumer interest group U.S. PIRG finds that many popular beer and wine brands are contaminated with – glyphosate (the main ingredient in Roundup).

Roundup is the most widely used weed killer in the world. In 2015, the World Health Organization’s cancer arm declared glyphosate a probable human carcinogen. Last year Monsanto lost a HUGE lawsuit filed by a California man with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma – the jury decided that Roundup caused his cancer and awarded him millions. This was the first of thousands of lawsuits filed.

U.S. PIRG tested 5 wines and 15 beers (some organic) and found glyphosate in 19 out of 20 of them.

The wine brands that tested positive for glyphosate are Beringer, Barefoot, Sutter Home, Inkarri Estates (organic), and Frey (organic). Sutter Home wine rang in with the most glyphosate at 51 ppb (parts per billion).

The wines that came out with the least amount of Roundup were both organic – Inkarri Estates Malbec Organic (5.3 ppb) and Frey Organic Natural White Blend (4.8 ppb).

The beer brands that tested positive for glyphosate are Budweiser, Coors Light, Miller Lite, Sam Adams, Samuel Smith (organic), New Belgium, Corona, Heineken, Guinness, Stella Artois (beer and cider), Ace Perry, Sierra Nevada, and Tsingtao. The beer with the most glyphosate was Tsingtao at 49.7 ppb, followed by Coors Light, Miller Lite, Budweiser and Corona.

How did this weed killer end up in organic wine and beer?

I was a bit surprised seeing Samuel Smith’s organic beer coming up with some glyphosate in it. It’s worth noting that the organic beer and organic wine had the LOWEST amount on the list. This is because glyphosate is prohibited to be used on organic crops – and glyphosate in them is the result of contamination through water, rainwater, or drift from nearby crops. It wasn’t directly applied to their crops if they are certified organic.

Organic winery Frey Vineyards told USA Today that they do not use herbicides and “glyphosate in trace amounts is now found in rainwater because of its application to conventionally farmed agricultural land. Glyphosate in trace amounts can be found in many food products across the United States. We urge consumers to speak up to ban all use of glyphosate.

The one brand tested by U.S. PIRG that had no detectible glyphosate was Peak Organic brand beer.

I discuss how to protect yourself in the chapter  – “Weed Killer For Dinner” – in my new book Feeding You Lies…

The majority of food and drinks are contaminated with Roundup.

Even though Roundup is strongly linked to cancer, Roundup has NOT been banned. It continues to be used on food crops, parks, playgrounds, and by homeowners everywhere. Glyphosate is sprayed on 80% of crops in this country and is now so rampant in our environment that it’s found in honeycerealsmeatdrinking waterbreast milkinfant formulachipscookiesair samples… the list goes on.

Critics say the amount of weed killer in our food and drinks is TOO LOW to cause damage – but is this a LIE?

Just remember this… Monsanto/Bayer has tried to hide the dangers of Roundup from the public and regulators for years. Monsanto has colluded with regulators at the EPA – and the “safe levels” for glyphosate in our food were raised by the EPA at the request of Monsanto. Are we supposed to trust Monsanto that these levels are safe? If there is Roundup in everything that you eat and drink today, are you still consuming a “safe” level?

I’ve been dragged through the mud by people calling me a “fearmonger” for writing about the dangers of Roundup.

Critics say that scientists disagree with my work and that we should trust them because they are the real experts. They branded me “pseudoscience” because I avoid GMOs and conventional foods grown with glyphosate.

The truth is: Science is always evolving. It’s not always “settled” and it is riddled with industry corruption.

Just look at what Big Tobacco has done during the last 80 years, as they tried to hide the grave dangers of cigarette smoking from the public. Monsanto’s playbook is the same and they use many of the same tactics. Roundup is the new tobacco.

Internal emails published in Feeding You Lies show how many of these critics received money from Monsanto and Bayer. These companies enlist experts to spin the story on glyphosate and lie to the public about its dangers. They also enlist experts to discredit activists like myself who are telling the truth about their products. It’s disgusting.

If you want to know the TRUTH about how to avoid Roundup in your food and who is LYING about its dangers – you need to read Feeding You Lies!

“I am beyond sucked into to the new book #feedingyoulies I ALWAYS knew there was something wrong with our food industry and @thefoodbabe knocks it out of the park with educating and spreading light on the truth behind these companies and what they aren’t telling you!” ~ Erika

I’m loving the excitement surrounding this book. We are changing the world! One person at a time.

Want to avoid weed killer in your beer and wine? Here’s what to do:

  1. Choose certified organic beer and wine whenever possible. This has been shown to have the least glyphosate residue, if any.
  2. Ask the brewery or winery if they test for glyphosate. If not, encourage them to do so.
  3. Stop using Roundup and synthetic weed killers at home. This is contaminating our environment, making it’s way into our air, water, and food.

If you know anyone who drinks wine or beer (I’m sure ya do!) please share this post with them. Everyone needs to know if they’re drinking weed killer.

Xo,

Vani

P.S. After you’ve read Feeding You Lies, I have one small favor to ask. Please leave an honest review of the book online here. It’s time the truth comes out.

  1. Hi Vani i wonder if any tests were done to Spanish, French, Chilian wine….do you know if these countries would use Round up. Thank you so much for your hard work!!!

    1. My former wife, a Chilena, told me in 1986 “Where do you think all that DDT went?”. Then we have had Chilean produce all year long after this! Chile is onboard to do whatever this country wants them to do!

  2. A short while ago you posted one of the safest beers to drink was Heinenken. I switched when I saw Heinenken was a decent beer to drink. I don’t drink very much, 6-pack a week, but I do enjoy having a few here and there. Now that is off the table. I’ve tried Peak beer and they don’t taste very good.

    1. Same Here! Thought Heinenken was on the safe list..Hard to go to your local VFW or American Legion and get anything safe to drink..unreal
I been drinking Australian wine, like yellow tail & little penquin, I hope they are safe.

      1. Randy,
I used to like Loenbrau (dark) until it was jerked from Utah altogether, I asked Vani if it is also poisoned. Vani did say your best bet is local mini-breweries. I like a local beer called BLOOD ORANGE; you might want to try it.

    2. That was based on ingredients only – not what’s not on the label – like glyphosate residue – this is cutting edge information here in this report and you should choose your beer wisely.

      1. Vani,
Thanks for this report and your dedication. I’ll bet your hubby was one of the first to read it. Did this change his favorite beer and wine? I also greatly appreciate your dedication. I like Loenbrau Dark (beer), even it hasn’t been available in Utah for a few years. Is it poisoned also?

?Is glyphosate accumulative in the human body? If so, does it change chemically? What does glyphosate do to the body? Does it have a ‘half-life’ like radioactivity? Can glyphosate be passed on to a fetus by the mother?

    3. Yeah i was confused as you are. Heineken is one of the few beers are NON gmo. Heard lot of good things about it??? What happened all of a sudden? Maybe they brew some of the heineken here and tested that? Supposed to be imported beer.

    4. Try it again! They have so many new beers – what style do you like? They have very approachable lighter beers but also have an awesome line of limited release double IPAs that are incredible!

    1. Since Glysophate is water soluble, and it has been sprayed profusely on our crops since 1996 and used in millions of homes everywhere, the odds are yes it is in our drinking water. Scientist have found glysophate leached into many of our aquifers. Dr. Zach Bush has an incredible pod cast on the reality of our currrent state of health as a result of Glysophate ingestion.

      1. JV3: Yes, Dr. Zach Bush is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to GMOs and Glyphosate. He speaks in terms that one can understand also.

    2. Check out Mike Adams Website. healthranger.com he has some great info regarding water and just tested water filters that actually take it out!

      1. Oh Mikrle Adams the guy that said on Infowars for weeks that COVID would kill millions of people ? Oh that discredited guy I should take health advice from . Nah I’m good I’ll stick with food babe her reputation is incredible never does poor research like him and many others. This is cutting edge journalism and biotech science I am I this field and respect the work very much. Will never driklnk Heineken again , sell outs as far as the eyes can see !

  3. How come one of the most popular beers in the United States wasn’t tested? Bud light is one of the highest selling beers!

  4. Have not read your book yet. I am sure I will like it. I have been saying similar things to my friends and family for years. Too many closed minds, eyes and ears. But as the old saying goes (and I’ve cleaned it up!) “Just keep throwing mud at the wall, sooner or later it will begin to stick!” One more thought, for those who still vaccinate (even the flu shot is a vaccination), they even put glyphosate in vaccines now!

  5. I felt the Europeans, who have refused GMO’s more than we, were producing better, healthier beers using only 4 ingredients!
I drink the Korean beverage SOJU: Love it, and have hope this is not contaminated!
I would never ever drink ANY Budweiser company beer” I always felt ill after 1 can. Yes, that should have been tested!
    Thanks Vani!

    1. Be sure you pour off the first 1/2 to one inch of the bottle of Soju. The Formaldehyde used in the fermentation process rises to the top.

    2. South Korea Soju is like home made white lightening. Are you aware of any constraints SK has on its production?

      1. My best friend grew up on a farm where her father and brother used Round-Up for years and years. Her brother still uses it. Father is dead. My friend was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. She is currently undergoing treatment in Mexico.

  6. Oh Vani, This is so concerning. I rarely drink wine, but when I decide to I have chosen Frey Organics thinking it was a healthy choice. I find myself fretting over foods and I know this isn’t good either. I would love to know some of your most trusted brands? Because of how Roundup is found in rainwater, I wonder if growing food in greenhouses would be a good idea? Do you eat organic greens? How do you try to make wise food choices, while not worrying about so many of them? (arsenic in rice, mercury in Salmon etc).

  7. Interesting report Vani. I have been drinking Frey Organic Wine for a number of years now … they are a good company who practice sustainable farming, and also contribute to the “Right to Know” project. I believe the fact that glyphosate was detected in their wine was exactly what they stated to USA Today. This weed killer is EVERYWHERE …. detected in our environment and every living thing, and it’s only going to get worse. Eating organic will definitely help …. banning it ENTIRELY would be the best thing. However it has already saturated our environment so much to the point where it will take decades to overcome; if it ever does. As long as big corps and government continue with their corruption and look the other way, nothing will change. Profits before everything else … sad.
Keep up the great investigative work Vani – there are MANY behind you 🙂

  8. What can we do to stop this? I live in California, and see them spraying weed killer everywhere! My poor dog’s, I can’t even take them to park because if they eat the grass they get diarrhea and vomiting. I know it’s due to the chemicals and weed killers that they put on the grass. Who do we contact what, what can we do? I know that Monsanto is one of the biggest companies in the world and they are the maker of Roundup, how can we fight this monster from poisoning us and killing off future Generations?

    1. As long as people keep buying it and they make money Monsanto could care less who they poison unfortunately 🙁

  9. How is glyphosate going to keep
making money for Monsanto when they are killing all their customers? The tip of the iceberg is now exposed. We need to keep exposing the rest but infortunaly it will come at a price. Cancer lawsuits against this poison will continue and consume this company just like big tobacco. Infants first foods are Cheerios! Glyphosate is in there!!!

    1. BAYERIGFARBENMONSANTO.
Read history of igfarben Auschwitz III, crimes against humanity convictions of executives. Monsanto-Bayer pharmaceutical division making profits off of cancer&chronic illness treatments worth billions.

  10. You make a slight mistake, alcohol is a health food in small quantities. Very small quantities

  11. What can we do about it other than not use it ourselves? Simply reading about it changes nothing and asking if someone tests for it does not change things.

  12. I was just trying to find an organic prosecco because I really don’t drink, but from time to time I enjoy having a drink and it ALWAYS makes me feel really bad after having them. I am a Health Coach from IIN and I eat, drink and use cosmetics free from toxics and organic ingredients. And I started wondering if there was such a thing like organic spirits, because I tried a prosecco once and it didn’t really cause a bad effect in me the day after…. And I started wondering why??? I assumed that since it is from Italy where there aren’t GMOs and toxics as much as in the US, maybe the ppb were low enough not to affect my health, but after reading this post it only reassures my suppositions!!! What are your reccomendations on this? Is there somewhere I can find more about this subject? I can’t wait to devour your book!!! What do you think about Lamarca Prosecco and many others that are produced in Italy? I would really like to open an organic spirits market for those people like me who enjoy some wine from time to time but making sure that it won’t have any poisons in them… Thank you for always sharing your knowledge and research wirh with us!!! ❤

  13. I drink Stella Artois (bottles as the ones in the picture above) and have been buying only that brand as it’s imported and the label states it’s brewed in Belgium. As far as I know Monsanto’s weedkiller is not allowed (or at least not as widespread in Euros as it is in the US)…

I would love to see a list of beers that are non-GMO/do not contain glyphosate

  14. I am a licensed pesticide and herbicide applicator with 10 years experience. Roundup is a non selective weed-killer which means it kills any plant it touches. I doubt very highly that hops and grapes producers are applying Roundup to their crops as it would completely kill them. A selective weed control, like Weed-B-Gon, will kill specific weeds only and not harm your grass. Selective weed controls do not contain glyphosate and these are the majority of pesticides that are used. As you have noted, glyphosphate can be present in rainwater. So, the brands you named may have a higher glyphosphate count due to the agronomic practices of the community around them. I don’t receive any money from Monsanto or Bayer, I’m just a regular guy.

    1. Orchard fruits are routinely sprayed with glyphosate to kill the grasses and weeds so they do not compete with the desired fruit. Glyphosate is labeled for this use in the many pages of uses listed and attached to the glyhosate. Go look at orchards and you will typically see complete killing of the weeds underneath. It is why glyphosate was found in 6 for 6 brands of orange juice in 2014. Barley for beer is a grain so it is sprayed with glyphosate about 10 days before harvest to ripen the whole field and dessicate all the plants for a clean, dry harvest. Read the complete label of uses for the glyphosate you are using and you will be surprised.

    2. Thank you for this explanation. As I understand the situation, dead crops and weeds are cleared using round up because it kills everything. This takes less effort than running machinery and the cost is the contamination.

    3. They use it to desiccate the crop. It is done with several main crops in the US including lentils. The residue remains in the soil for up to 20 years. The grapes or hops are planted in this toxic soil… just saying…

  15. It may not be just sporay drift, water drift, etc. USDA organic rules allow for organic foods to be produces on land after just 3 years of not applying any commercial chemicals and meeting the organic rules. Glyphosate is very long lasting per Professor Emeritus Don Huber of Purdue University, a world recognized expert on Round Up tm (glyphosate). There was a farmer who had very good records on how much glyphosate was applied over a ten year period to his field. They measured how much glyphosate was in the soil and nearly all of it was still present. Very little had broken down and the scientists calculated that there was a 10-22 year half life. Half life means that for the applied glyphosate it takes on the average about 16 years for one half of the glyphosate applied to decay. So it will take hundreds or thousands of years for the glyphosate to finally be purged from the soil. Thus, the glyphosate is going to be in the soil for many hundreds of years and can be up taken by the organic plants. Food Babe needs to know this and contact Professor Emeritus Don Huber for details. This in formation was presented by him at the 2017 Acres USA conference in Columbus Ohio.

  16. Do you think wine from chili has a round off In it ? What would be the best wine to drink ?

  17. Alcohol destroys individual lives, relationships, families, and societies, but thank goodness we have an organic beer.

  18. I have been trying to figure out which imported beers are being brewed without glyphosphate ridden ingredients. It appears that Czech beers like pilsner urquel dont use glyphosphate. its hard to find out the information to be sure. Also i think that canadian brewed beers may not have it.

Does anyone know of any for sure beers that are not made with it?

  19. People, get the name correctly, please!
Its not ‘Glyphosphate’, as some here insist, with their comments. Thats when Bayer/Monsanto can have the case against their evil operations, thrown out of court, on a technicality!
    The correct spelling is, ‘Glyphosate’.
Thus, you allow your research, to render more accuracy!
Thank you, Vani Hari, and God Bless your honorable research!
